A FEW ESSENTIAL IPHONE SKILLS

STAY FIXED TIP no. 8

With yesterday's release of iOS 5.1, this week's tip will be centered around iOS and essential iPhone skills. Has an app ever been unresponsive or completely frozen? Is the home button taking way too many clicks before it works? Knowing what to do when an iPhone is being whack can avoid a lot of frustration. Continue reading for some useful tips.

Have an unresponsive or sticky Home button? Try this.

Step 1:
Launch the pre-installed Stocks app. Check out Apple's AAPL stocks. Wish they were affordable.
Step 2:
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake button until the "slide to power off" is displayed. Do not slide.
Step 3:
Now press and hold the Home button until the Stocks app has force quit.
Step 4:
Home button is now recalibrated and should be good as new.

Is an app having attitude or being stubborn? Try this.

Step 1:
Press the Home button once to exit all apps. Should now be viewing the Home Screen.
Step 2:
Quickly double click the Home button to activate the "fast app switcher." A dock will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3:
In the fast app switcher dock tap and hold the app that was being problematic until it starts to dance and wiggle. Then simply tap the red minus sign to force quit the app.
Step 4:
Press the Home button one last time to bring everything back to normal.

Ready to update to iOS 5.1? Follow these steps.

Step 1:
Back up the iPhone by syncing it with iTunes.
Step 2:
Disconnect from iTunes and connect to a wireless network.
Step 3:
In the settings app navigate to General and tap Software Update. In the next screen tap on Download and Install. This will begin the update process. Make sure the iPhone is connected to a power source if it's below a 50% charge. The update will take about 45 minutes to complete so sit back and relax.
Step 4:
Enjoy the new Camera shortcut on the lock screen!
